Plant Details
The Phase-I plant is spread across 729 acres. The station has 2X600 MW capacity units supplied by Harbin Electric International, China. The technology is subcritical coal fired steam generator connected to reheat type condensing steam turbine and generator with water cooled condenser.
Steam turbine is tandem compound, single re-heat, condensing type machine with extractions for regenerative feed water heating. The turbine is designed for Main Steam pressure of 16.7 MPa (a) and inlet temperature of 538°C and flow 1875.12 TPH.
Power Purchase Arrangements, Purchase agreement
Power Purchase Arrangements:
The plant is generating power on commercial basis. MEL has an obligatory Power Purchase Agreement of 5% with MPPMCL and rest of the generated power is sold on merchant basis.
The Phase-I plant also has a 20-year PPA for 500 MW under Captive User scheme with Reliance Industries Ltd.
Power Evacuation
MEL had power evacuation facility via double circuit quad moose 400 kV transmission line connected with the grid. The transmission line is of 336 km length and is connected to the PGCIL polling station at Bilaspur end.
Fuel
The fuel requirement of the plant is presently met through sourcing of domestic coal up to 1.15 MTPA under Fuel Supply Agreement with various subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, e-auction and open market coal purchase. Furnace oil is procured from the oil companies depot in the region by road tankers.
Water
MEL has a water supply agreement for 26 MCM with Water Resource Department, Madhya Pradesh and water is sourced from Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar (Rihand reservoir) located at around 37 km from plant location.
Expansion plans
Phase-II Expansion Project:
The capacity of the Bandhaura plant is being expanded by adding 2x800 MW (1600 MW) capacity based on Ultra-supercritical technology under the Phase-II Expansion Project. The expanded capacity will be utilised to supply power under a 1,230 MW (Net) Power Supply Agreement with MPPMCL.
Phase-III Expansion Project:
It is proposed to expand the capacity of the Bandhaura plant by adding further 2x800 MW (1600 MW) capacity based on Ultra-supercritical technology under the Phase-III Expansion Project. This will take the combined capacity of the power plant to 4400 MW upon completion of Phase-III. Ordering of main plant equipment for the Phase-III project has commenced.
