Plant Details

The power plant comprises a single unit of 600 MW capacity BHEL-make sub critical coal fired steam generator connected steam turbine and generator with water cooled condenser. The plant is set up on an area of 897.38 Acres.

The steam turbine is a tandem compound, single re-heat, condensing type machine with extractions for regenerative feed water heating. The turbine is designed for mainstream pressure of 176.7 kg/cm2 and inlet temperature of 540°C.

Some of the key features of plant are Natural Draft Cooling Tower (NDCT), turbine driven Boiler Feed Pumps and high concentration slurry disposal system, which are significantly contributing towards energy and water conservation.

Power Evacuation, Purchase agreement

Power Purchase Agreement

The plant is generating power on commercial basis. The plant has an obligatory Long Term Power Purchase Agreement with CSPTradeco, Chhattisgarh for 5% of net generated capacity at variable cost, rest of the generated power is sold in short and medium-term markets.

Power Evacuation

The plant has a 20km long double circuit 400 kV transmission line, connected to PGCIL pooling station at Kotra, to evacuate 600 MW power to regional utilities.

Achievements

  • The APL Raigarh plant is certified as Single use plastic free plant.
  • It was the Runner - Up of 20th Annual Greentech Safety India Award 2021 for outstanding achievements in "Safety Excellence" category.
  • Implementation of 5S workplace management and Integrated management system is at an advanced stage.

Fuel

The requirement of coal for the unit is met through open market coal. The plant can also source coal under Clause B(iii) of the SHAKTI policy under Fuel Supply Agreements with subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd. Furnace oil is procured from the Indian Oil Companies depot in the region and from other suppliers.

Water

The requirement of water for unit is met through river water. The unit draws water from Kalma barrage on Mahanadi River at the distance of 6 km from the plant, the Raigarh plant has a permanent Water Agreement for 15 MCM per annum with Water Resource Department, Chhattisgarh.

Phase-II Expansion Project:

It is proposed to expand the capacity of the Raigarh power plant by adding 2x800 MW (1600 MW) capacity based on Ultra-supercritical technology under the Phase-II Expansion Project. This will take the combined capacity of the power plant to 2200 MW upon completion of Phase-II. Ordering of main plant equipment for the Phase-II project has commenced.
